My father died early this morning.  It's good to know that he had so
many friends who cared about him.  He had a full and interesting life
and enjoyed it thoroughly right up until the last couple of days.
Hospice did a wonderful job of keeping him comfortable at the end, but
at the cost of making him much less alert.  But he chose his time.  He
told us when he was ready to let go.

Please let colleagues know.  He requested donations to the Elephant
Listening Project in lieu of flowers, or the like.  (I'll send the full
address tomorrow -- it's in his home and I'm writing from mine.)  We
will have a memorial service at some point, but this will take some
energy to plan.  If you have advice about the time that most academic
colleagues would find convenient for such an event, please let me know.
