The topic of this week's BLAB (Friday, October 3) is cognition in fish.
We'll meet at 4:00 at Colin's house. Email him if you need directions.
The readings were attached to an earlier email from me. If you need
copies, let me know and I will send them to you.
Recently an entire edition of the journal *Fish and Fisheries* was
devoted to the topic, and some in the news media picked up on the short
overview article titled “Learning in Fishes: From Three-second Memory to
Culture.” Here are two examples of the reporting:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/3189941.stm
http://www.npr.org/features/feature.php?wfId=1421527
I chose two papers from the issue. Our required reading will be the one
titled "Social learning in fishes: a review," and the recommended
reading will be "Learned predator recognition and antipredator responses
in fishes."
The journal is available on-line via Evans Library if anyone cares to
look at the other papers in this issue
