BVC-CHAT The years of our miles

As we all use the same tired excuses about schedules, responsibilities
and recidivism, another Texas summer lets our skinny wheels sink into
the amber of those loney asphalt roads and we continue our elusive quest
for miles, fitness and exhilaration. Throughout our endless search for
the perfect road, the immaculate ride, that cycling epithany, we often
ride past that empty stretch of road on the way back from Carlos. All
those reflections on possibilities, permutations and probabilities don't
ever get very far with me as we pass that remarkable, and oft
overlooked, marker which reminds us of our good friend and cycling
comrade who didn't ride home on that one Sunday morning, five years ago,
tomorrow.

It's not necessary to stop - Raise a bidon, hold it high, a cyclist's
salute; or jump on that big chain ring and wind up that ceremonial
sprint. Either act would show fitting respect for someone who shared
our cycling mornings, and supplied our cycling needs, and shared our
cycling adventures, and who got up another hill, ahead of us, again.

I miss you, Wayne. Ride with us, Wayne. We don't forget you, Wayne.
