BVC-CHAT Long Sunday ride

Colin and I are interested in a long 4+hrs (about 75 miles or so) tomorrow. 
Option 1: We start early and get 20-30 miles in before meeting the 9:00 group leaving the chevron station on SR 30 and then do additional 40-50 miles with them
Option 2: The 9:00 group abandons their desire to do a wimpy 40 miles and desire to get so good miles in and we all leave at 7 or 7:30 from the chevron station.
So what will it be? Be strong and go long or be weak and meek.
