BVC-CHAT route question

Please forgive my beginner questions, but I need to go to the driver's
license office to get my license renewed and was planning to ride my
bicycle to get there.

I would appreciate some suggestions as to what is the best and safest
way for a cyclist to get there from the campus.  I work at the
Integrated Ocean Drilling Program in the research park on west campus
and that's where I would be starting from.  I prefer bike routes and try
to avoid busy streets with high traffic volume and no shoulder or bike
lane.  I will use sidewalks when necessary to get through those areas. 
I know the bike routes in College Station pretty well, but am unfamiliar
with the best ways to go in Bryan.  Does anyone have any good
suggestions?

One person suggested that I go up the frontage road on Highway 6.  What
is the safest way to get across Highway 6 from where I am starting, or
is there a better route to follow through residential streets in Bryan?
