BVC-CHAT Jeff Paradowski and 100 bikes for Christmas

I talked to Jeff. (Jeff's e-mail is wjplaw at tca dot net)

He has 100 bikes bought from, and stored at, Walmart - 50 boy bikes and
50 girl bikes in varying sizes. He has received roughly 200 nominations
and his office will pair the list to 100.

That's when it gets interesting. He needs help calling the families to
invite the recipients to WalMart on Dec. 22 for bike pick-up, time to be
determined (probably a 2 or 3 hour pick-up window in the afternoon).

May I see a show of hands for those who would be willing to call 10 or
so families with bike pick-up information?

How about a show of hands for volunteers to hand out (and help size)
bikes at Walmart.

There will surely be recipients who will not have transportation to
Walmart, so bikes will need to be delivered. How about a show of hands
from those who could offer delivery of said bikes to those who are
unable to find transportation to Walmart?

Wait, there's more. Jeff realizes the need for helmets and someone at
last night's meeting suggested that we could get some helmets for a
fairly reasonably price (did I hear $8 - $10?). Would someone please
weigh in on that? [Jeff: would Walmart make a deal on helmets?]

Jeff sees enormous potential for this project going forward with
Christmas bikes numbering in the hundreds, if not thousands, involving
businesses from all over the Brazos Valley. He's thinking BIG! (Go big
or go home!)

That's all for now.
