I talked with American Specialty Insurance about obtaining insurance for
BVC.
It would cost $1.65 per club member and club activities would be covered,
but only for MEMBERS.
We currently do rides outside the BVC umbrella to keep BVC away from any
potential
liability for accidents on them, but with the insurance MEMBERS would be
covered on
these rides if they then became considered part of regular club
activities. This would include the time trial, but there could be no
special fee charged for the time trial.
We would probably have to get all members to sign the usual waivers.
Other fundraiser rides for which we charge a fee could be likewise
covered, but then we
are going to have to pay a per-participant fee.
We currently have 43 current and 36 expired members
( http://www.brazoscyclists.org/members.cgi ), so if we paid insurance
for all of these,
it would be $130.35 for the year.
We have to make a decision on it this week. Opinions? The cost is low,
and this will
provide some protection for club assets and, more importantly, club
officers. However,
it does not cover nonmembers participating in our activities. Someone
out there has
got to have a more ... professional ... take on this than I do... please
comment.
