I'm happy to hand the ride leadership job over to someone else,
but with a boyfriend in Austin (gosh, rough life, I know :), I'm
doing too much weekend travel to cherish mid-week responsibilities.
Let me also admit that I'm tired right now of having to do battle
to make sure my riders show up with lights -- the incident
I wrote about at length a few weeks ago with the lack of support
from experienced rider(s) plus having the same person show up the
next week <again> without a tail light... I don't need
the frustration of doing that battle over and over.

I guess I have 2c to contribute on volunteers and volunteering ...
there are a few people (I'd like to think I'm one of them) who do
work to make sure opportunities are offered to all. The PMS
crew primarily Lenae and Gina, also Willie's Time Trial, Tour de Dirt,
and Spring training rides come to mind. If you enjoy those
opportunities, please take care of the people who make them possible.
Or at least don't give 'em additional headaches!

Or, alternatively, we always welcome people who make things happen
themselves ...

You (I speak generally, not at Chris) might not always like me,
or the things I do with the social ride, but ... I'd hope I'm always
pretty reasonable to deal with and reasonable to talk to about
why I do things the way I do ... hopefully even pretty pleasant
*most* of the time. (I got pretty crabby the last time
I had to deal with the person without the light.) I do need your
support when I have to deal with the unpleasantries: folks who show
up without lights and helmets and who are riding to the left rather
than on the right or three abreast (even I do that on occasion!). Not
my favorite job to be sure.

I guess that was a long exposition, motivated perhaps because I've
been feeling a little pressed lately (the jersey project is
another example of something that I hope is going to make
progress real soon now, but it has eaten up a lot of my time...)

Speaking of the jersey project, I hope to have another proof in my
hands soon, and I am hoping it will have much better colors than
the previous....

Okay, now I *am* starting to ramble. It is past 5 pm on Friday,
so it must be time to go home.

Hope everyone has a good weekend, and I hope to see many
out on the Flagpole ride tomorrow.

Jean Marie
