Meeting notes for 02/21/06
(Please note: The meetings were moved to Tuesdays to accommodate a vocal group of members who couldn't attend on Mondays and the turnout was still low, even with a featured speaker..... If you don't attend, you can't complain or request BVC take on your pet project.)
Jean Marie Linhart, our esteemed president and a League of American Cyclists Licensed Cycling Instructor, is going to be offering a Road One Safety course this spring. Willie Allen made a motion that BVC cover the cost of the class for BVC ride leaders (seconded and passed). This includes Ginger Ewell, Tracey Hayes, Lenae Huebner and Regina Hokanson of the PMS Ride. Other than Willie, are there other official ride leaders? All those interested, please email Jean Marie with open weekends in April 2006. This is a really good course.

Bike to Work Day was very much the topic of discussion. Regina Hokanson is the liaison between BVC and Freebird’s World Burrito.
Like last year, there will be a photo contest for offices/labs/businesses that do bike to work. Laura Kennedy has agreed to chair that portion of the celebration (flyers, PSAs and prizes). Jean Marie will post the photos on the BVC webpage.
There was some discussion of how to truly reward folks “caugcaughting to work/school that day. An additional coupon for a free burrito? A BTWD 2006 T-shirt? Breakfast stations 7-9am placed around campus?

The National Bike Summit is in Washington, D.C. next year. We would like BVC member to attend. Not sure of $$ details – there is registration, hotel and airfare to consider.

The Tri-County Hill Hopper takes place this Sunday, Feb 26. This ride benefits the Family Support Network (http://fsn.tamu.edu). Please register and ride. http://hillhopper.org/ The weather is supposed to co-operate this year.

Rob Malinak attended USA Cycling Certified Mechanics Clinic at the Olympics Training Center in Colorado earlier this winter and gave a short talk. Those who attend must be bicycle mechanics for at least 2-3 years and this clinic gave them training to become race mechanics – rules and techniques for changing wheels/fixing bikes on the road, on the trails and in the ‘dromes – and the opportunity hold discussions with others with similar backgrounds. Thanks, Rob!

Officer elections were held. Jean Marie will remain president. Willie will remain treasurer, Lenae is our Fairy Godmother of Special Events and Regina will remain secretary. The position of vice-president is open. Any volunteers?

  Repectfully submitted,
  Regina Hokanson
  BVC Secretary
