JM, thanks for reminding me about the cold.  I'd forgotten.  At one point I had them put about 6 pre-warmed blankets on me to keep me from shivering too much.  The guy who drove me there had to leave and couldn't stay in the same room with me because he couldn't stand the cold.  The ER folks did everything they were supposed to do, and did send me home with a prescription and instructions.  I must have just been a pretty bad patient.  I still think I'll choose St. Joe's next time if I have the choice, even though it's not convenient to where I live.

Sherman and Layne shared their tales of ER woe.

I also visited the ER recently -- St. Joe's.  I took a fall off the mt. bike
and gave myself a hip pointer injury.  I was in incredible pain when I
tried to walk, so this scared a few bejeebers out of me.

Gina was kind enough to escort me up there (I went home, showered,
and swallowed some Vicodin first).  She even enjoyed the entire 4 hour
ordeal with me.  That's a good friend -- I really would have been more
than happy for a ride up there and instructions to call if I couldn't
get a taxi home (I will not drive on Vicodin).  May I note that Gina
is smart -- she came armed with food, water, reading material, and
a blanket because the ER is always tragically cold.

After much waiting and some very interesting people watching, I got
seen by Dr. Janet (forgot her last name).  I really liked her.  She
took one extra Xray to confirm the iliac crest wasn't cracked,
offered me condolences that it was just bruises, gave me a note
excusing me from work on Monday, made sure I had plenty of pain meds,
and sent me home.

I couldn't complain about the wait -- I wasn't in any immediate peril
and I knew it; I was just afraid I'd broken something.  I really liked
the doctor.  I thought she was compassionate, quick, and competent.
