who are you calling stupid?

The irony is that I was just crafting a response to Rebecca about bike lanes and safety, and one of my points was how safe I feel riding on Texas (dum dum DUM) as opposed to George Bush. In my experience, a driver will notice and respect a rider who is nominally part of traffic as opposed to one segregated by a bike lane, who will probably be ignored to the bikers detriment. Texas Avenue, particularly in front of Campus, is wide enough to accommodate a bike and allow traffic to get by without having to edge over or change lanes. Plus, when there's lots of traffic you get a bit of a draft, and you don't have to stop every hundred meters for a stop sign. As soon as the construction is complete, I'll definitely be riding the entire length of Texas when I need to. Give it a try, I think you'll find it quite nice.

maybe, but I've been hit twice in bike lanes in the last three years (and I came thisclose to getting hit last Saturday on Bush). beat that.
