I want to get faster, but goal #1 is weight loss. Once I get below 200lb, then I'll shift my training goals (getting skinny will make me a little faster anyway, at least on the hills). Currently I can average ~20mph on good days over my 1+ hour training ride, including warm-up and warm-down. Riding with the Flagpole group would definitely make me faster. BTW, if anyone wants to join me on my am training ride (~20 to 22 miles, everyday except Tuesdays and Thursdays), I usually am riding past the Aerofit on Villa Maria at about 6:15am +/- 10 minutes. I try to be home no later than 7:30am. My route is usually Villa Maria to Hwy47, then north until just before the turn to the A&M Riverside campus, back the other way on 47, right at Leonard, race some dogs, loop back to the 47, go south to Villa Maria/Jones Road, ride Jones to Hwy60 (best part of the ride), then back to Villa Maria and home.
