[BVC-CHAT] "Why do they hate us?"

Regarding the bad manners of cyclists around BCS, can the BVC possibly get
together with AMCT and the university and discuss how to improve the
situation? I was thinking (off the cuff) that it would be helpful to require
students (likely incoming Freshmen) to attend cycling orientation with
campus police. I was also wondering if it would be a good idea to require
all bicycles on campus to be registered (free, of course, and possible
already required but unenforced), otherwise risking confiscation, and a
prerequisite to registration of the bike could be verification of attendance
at the cycling orientation (something like a Road I course, put possible
less involved).

Just an idea.

I read that article this morning.  He's right about the presumptive attitude
of many cyclists riding the rural roads east and northeast of Houston. Why
cyclists would not be polite and respectful when riding in the area is a
mystery to me.  But I've also been watching the proliferation of cyclists on
the TAMU campus and surround streets this past week as school starts. Their
inability to understand that they need to obey the rules of the road as a
vehicle is also mysterious.  It is as though they remember only riding their
home driveways and front yards when they were 10 years old.
