back in 2005 I was visiting friends and riding though out the St Etienne area. While I was there, St Etienne was hosting the penultimate stage of the TdeF, a 34km CLM (TT for you anglophiles). My friend is part owner of a company that has a small sponsorship  deal with Cofidis. He kept telling me that he was asking his Cofidis contacts to use their franco- influence to get me in the car following Lance A. during the CLM. Who took my spot? John Kerry, that Serotta riding politco . I understand I was 318th on the list of people trying to wrangle the ride in the LA follow car. At least I got a pass into the warmup area and could view the hundreds of photogs/fans encircling a space that supposingly the maillot juene was warming up.
