Praise be to the lord, I am no longer associated with the worst tnp in
history. If my aging and barely functioning memory serves me, the
previous candidates for the worst tnp's in living memory are:
1.
When Vasanth gassed it within 25 meters after turning onto Grassbur and
only Sherman and i went with him. We sucked Vasanth's wheel from as
long as possible and evintally dropped off on the start of the last
llap. Lots of people complained that I was to blame since I should have
used my meager powers persuasion as a tnp elder cleric to
ask/order/request/plead Vasanth to slow down. I enjoyed the ride and
bemoaned getting ridden off his wheel.
2. A few weeks ago Ken and I
went off the front and were ascused of hammering away from the pack
shortly after turning on Grassbur. The packed chased and caught ken and
I shortly before the end of the first lap. The restt of the ridde was
agressive and I thought it was one of the best tnp's of the season.
My understanding is contrary to previous years when the tnp started
with 2 laps and then later progressed to 3 laps, this year because the
ride started earlier it was agreed to ride 3 laps it was suggested that
we ride the first lap steady hard to let people build up their
conditioning. i viewed this suggestion as temporary alteration of the
tnp rules (there are no rules) which would be discarded within week or
2. Somehow this has been permnament rule which some do not agreed with.
As a troubemaker (as I suspect Ken, Herc and Vasanth are classified) I
prefer the no rules ride which can start at the light at 158, or even
at the turn onto grassbur.
Hence, i have swiftonian modest proposal - at the grassbar intersection
true tnp'ers turn left and ride their hearts and lungs out and their
legs off while the lollygaggers continue straight on Elmo Weedon and
ride the Weedon loop at whatever pace they chose.
maddog from Killarney - did 70 Km with 3 gaps (aka irish for passes/cols) today while the girls did a bus tour of the Ring of Kerry.

Strongly agree. Last week was the worst TNP in history. If someone (Herc) goes off the front on the first lap, others (Ken) should not chase. If the pace in the pack is too slow for you, go to the front and lift the tempo. If that's not enough to bring the guy off the front back, then let him ride solo.
