The faith and persistance of the Saturday morning core is paying off, as
we've gradually built our ranks back up to fighting force. After being
decimated with the losses this past year of Rainer, Lee, Steve N, Brad,
Sean, Dave W, Matt M, etc, this morning we had 11 strong riders on the
Caldwell ride, most of whom will be regulars, and a fine contingent of
steady riders who rode with us to Twisters -- the point at which the
ride begins to heat up. Notably, the redoubtable Willie Allen is back
after a 7 month stint in the land of Le Tour, and fit as ever; he put
some serious hurt on everyone with an awe-inspiring 30+mph pull most of
the way up the last hard stretch on 166 before Hwy 50 -- into a light
cross-headwind no less. Anyway, it was a great ride, and I encourage
other riders interested in a hard but friendly 55 mile ride to join us
-- every Saturday at 8:45 from the flagpole on the main A&M quad. Those
looking for a somewhat shorter (~45 mile) more moderately-paced ride are
also encouraged to show up at the same time, ride en masse with us to
Twisters and continue on with the steady-riding group.
Standard weekend events continue tomorrow with the usual 9:00am ride
leaving from the Chevron, NE corner of Harvey Rd and the Hwy 6 bypass.
~45 miles, moderate pace -- neither leisurely spin nor hammerfest.
