Dear BVC members (and supporting non-members!):

The Power Pedal Events are being held in Bryan on October 12 and 13. On
Saturday, there is criterium racing near downtown and on Sunday there
are road races and mountain bike races starting at Lake Bryan. The
criterium, especially, is also a fun spectator event, under the
floodlights downtown with some very fast action, live commentary, and
even some prizes for the crowd.

Some of you have let me know already that you'd be interested in helping
out with the race. (Volunteers will get free t-shirts and free food.)
If you are interested in doing so, please go to these web sites and sign
up to help with either the road-biking or mountain-biking events:

  http://www.brazoscyclists.org/cgi-bin/ppmtbvol.cgi

In addition to the racing, there are going to be some kid-oriented
safety courses, at Lake Bryan on Saturday morning, at the downtown course
on Sunday afternoon (tentative), and at the Lake again on Sunday
morning. So, if you have children (6 and up) who would like to
participate, please think about bringing them out. (Details will be
available later.)

It occurs to me that we, BVC, might also want to put up a booth at the
downtown course. Bryan Texas Utilities (the race sponsor) is trying to
do a lot to publicize the race (you might already have seen the KBTX
commercials) and if we can let a few people know that we exist and
perhaps sign up a few members at the race, this would be a good thing.
If you're interested in running a booth either on Saturday or Sunday,
please let the list know. Willie and I will both be busy with race
organization, so we'd be looking for someone else to take the lead on
this. (Essentially the same prep could work for both Power Pedal and
ForwardFest.)

Colin
