Folks,
A reminder that this Sunday, April 13, at 4 pm we have
invited the City Council to join us on a short ride. So far, Mayor
Ben White and members John Crompton and James Massey (and wife) have
accepted. I've also invited the two TV stations, the Eagle, and the
police. No response from any of them yet.
To make this a success, we will need
-- as large a turnout as possible, ideally in jerseys. Feel free to
invite friends and neighbors.
any sense of who can come? I hope to take my son to
emphasize the family friendliness of biking.
- Ben White needs a bike -- not a road bike: does anyone have one
he could borrow?
- White will need a helmet and the Masseys might (they were
uncertain). I have a spare helmet. Anyone else have a helmet or two?
- Could someone volunteer to bring a cooler with water bottles? I
suspect our treasury could handle this expense.
- As far as I know, there is no BVC banner or other sign we could
use as a rallying point. The jerseys should be adequate.
The ride will start and end at Anderson Park. We will take the
federally funded bike path to Southwest Parkway, where we will head
west until we turn left at Hondo. We will turn left again at Nueces
to reach Harvey Mitchell and again head west. We would turn right at
Welsh so everyone can appreciate the greatly improved
intersection. When we reach Holleman, we will turn right and then
right again on Anderson to return to the park. This route will show
the wide range of biking conditions in College Station.
The weather is supposed to be sunny and in the mid-70s.
Looking forward,
Jonathan
