Pat and Harry,

The category Whitespace is used to represent
one or more of blank, tab, endline, etc.
Instead of adding a specification of where
Whitespace may occur, many people simply
add two global rules:

   1. No whitespace is permitted between
      constituents of a lexical category.

   2. But Whitespace is permitted between
      any two constituents of a nonlexical
      category.

A delimited comment could be added as one more
type of permissible Whitespace.

With this metalevel comment, both comments and
whitespace may be omitted in the grammar rules.
