Am I the only person who has trouble printing the PDF on a Linux system?

Specifically, the characters are completely misassigned when printing.
When viewing the document in Adobe Reader, everything is fine, but when
printed the glyphs used are almost entirely erroneous, consisting
entirely of long repetitions of the same character over and over,
though their placement on the page does follow the overall shape of the
actual text (I believe there's one character printed for every letter
in the document). The character that's repeated changes from place to
place, but each appears in long runs.

Images print properly.

I'm running SuSE Linux 10.0 with the latest available release of Adobe
Reader for Linux (7.0.5). I'm printing to an HP LaserJet printer.

Can anybody shed any light on this strange symptom and / or supply a
work-around?

Thanks.
