First, I'd like to thank Harry for all the work in
managing, editing, and assembling all our contributions.
Having done some such things in the past, I realize that
it is (a) an enormous amount of work, (b) mostly thankless,
and (c) seriously underpaid.
Second point, I don't know what process was used to generate
the PDF file. What I tried was (a) opening the .doc file
in OpenOffice and (b) exporting it as PDF.
I found the following space requirements:
Original .doc file: 833K
Harry's .pdf file: 8.1 Megabytes
The OpenOffice .pdf file: 683K
That is almost a 12 to 1 ratio in space requirements for
the version Harry produced vs. the one from OpenOffice.
However, I did notice that OpenOffice changed some of the
details in formatting. I haven't seen anything other than
cosmetic changes, but the OO generated file is several
pages shorter. I'm traveling now, and I don't have a
chance to print out either file and do a page by page
If anyone has the time and interest to examine the two
versions, I'd be happy to send them the OO .pdf file
