CSPS Friends:

I'm copying to you below a note from Krista May of Brazos Progressives, of
which CSPS is a member. I encourage you to come to the press conference
about concerns with the PROCESS by which community members have access in
the decision-making about development in CS. As we are too keenly aware,
development decisions necessitate school district decisions. . the two are
extremely closely tied and not always to the advantage of the kind of
inclusive, diverse and egalitarian schools that we favor. Please read the
below and try to attend the press conference:

*************************

Hello. I'm writing to let you know about an upcoming press conference that
we'd
like you and representatives from your Brazos Progressive member
organization to
attend.

On Tuesday, December 13, at 3:30 pm in front of City Hall in College Station
(entrance to Council Chambers south side of City Hall), the Brazos
Progressives
will host a press conference about our recommendation that the Planning and
Zoning Commission reject the revised Unified Development Ordinance because
of
the exclusionary process by which the UDO was revised. Unfortunately, the
UDO
has been revised with undue influence by some developers, thus creating a
conflict of interest. Presenters at this press conference will include
former
College Staiton mayors Lynn McIlhaney and Gary Halter, as well as former
council
member Anne Hazen.

This press conference is an important way for us to have our voices heard in
our
community. We've already sent a letter to the Planning and Zoning
Commission,
and they are letting us know that they have heard us and are considering our
concerns. (For a copy of the letter, see our latest news blog entry at
http://brazos_progressives.typepad.com/cs_councilwatch/). The press
conference
is a way for us to publicize our concerns and educate the public about a
faulty
process. Please turn out and show your support for this important event. It
takes a lot of time and effort to put something like this together, and your
presence will make a huge difference!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

regards,
Krista May
Chair, Brazos Progressives
