Re:  Health Textbook Adoption

Dear CSISD Parent

Public schools in the state are allowed to adopt textbooks according to a 
schedule published by the Texas Education Agency and the State Board of 
Education.  For the 2005-2006 school year, districts are adopting textbooks 
in a variety of areas, including health education.

According to state rules, each district in the state must have a School 
Health Education Council (SHEC) that advises the school board on issues 
related to the health curriculum. SHEC is a group of CSISD teachers, 
parents and community members and is comprised of thirty six members.

For CSISD, SHEC is the group who will be reviewing and recommending health 
textbooks to our local board of trustees.  SHEC is interested in receiving 
input from parents and other community members, so a schedule has been 
developed that will allow interested individuals the opportunity to review 
the health textbooks.  Books may be reviewed at the CSISD Central 
Administration Building located at 1812 Welsh on the following dates/times:

January 19:     7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
January 21:     8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
January 22:     8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
January 24:     8:00 AM to 9:00 PM
January 25:     8:00 AM to 9:00 PM

Forms will be available at the Central Administration Building that will 
allow you to provide written feedback to SHEC regarding the textbooks.
