CSPS members:
I applaud the expression of concern about specific cuts in funding. But I
urge all of you to try to get the best and fullest information possible on
the types and level of funding cuts approved by the board before singling
out one type of cut individually for restoration.
When I served on the ISD committee to determine how to address the growth
pains in the district, the most striking presentation was made by Supt.
Johnson in which he showed us a LIST of the cuts made in the last go round
and the ones proposed in the next, as a result of chapter 41 status.
Taken as a whole. . . and given all the competing needs for funding. . .
this perspective changed my understanding of the financial situation of the
district substantially.
I'm not suggesting that cuts to G/T are any less or more significant or
hurtful than others. . .I'm just suggesting that advocates for restoration
of G/T funding (or that of any other program) make their argument based on
and in the context of the full funding picture.
Cecelia
