A&M Consolidated High School Ranked Even Higher!
The Texas Educational Excellence Project (TEEP) at Texas A&M University has released a report challenging the recent Newsweek rankings of the best high schools. TEEP contends that Newsweek's rankings are misleading as an overall, holistic measure of high school success since they are based solely on the number of advanced placement (AP) and international baccalaureate (IB) tests administered by the high schools. Using a much broader criteria (five indicators and a variety of other controls including resources available to the schools), TEEP ranks top 100 Texas high schools and contrasts its rankings with the Newsweek rankings. The TEEP report and the complete list of ranked Texas high schools can be accessed at http://teep.tamu.edu/rankings.
A&M Consolidated High School was ranked 33rd among the 92 Texas high schools making the Newsweek rankings. The TEEP rankings move Consol from 33rd to 22nd in the state!
