Folks,
The Texas House of Representatives is likely to vote tomorrow,
Tuesday 2/27, on House Bill 8 which will expand the death penalty to
those convicted of of repeat instances of child molestation.

Although this is a dangerous expansion of the death penalty, there
are no reasons to bring the death penalty debate to the forefront
when you call. The Texas Association Against Sexual Assault opposes
this law for a number of reasons including that "it may backfire and
result in fewer convictions of sex offenders." Since most sexual
predators are friends or family to their victims, it is even less
likely that they will be turned in the stiffer the punishment. How
many families will be reluctant to turn in the guilty uncle or
brother if it means essentially imposing a death sentence.
