Friends in oppsition to the death penalty,

As we've had a wonderful hiatus from executions lately, I've been keeping
your in-boxes clear. But we have 2 executions scheduled this month, that of
Michael Rosales this Wednesday, and

Derrick Johnson on Thursday April 30. We will hold our vigils from 5:30 -
6:00 on each of these days at the corner of Texas Ave & Walton.

The A&M chapter of Amnesty International will be showing the film At the
Death House Door this Thursday in Rudder Annex room 417D. I'll be attending
and I'm sure that they anyone else interested would be welcome.

*There has been some good news* since I last wrote. The biggest news is
that New Mexico abolished the death penalty. This is a huge victory and
takes us one step closer to a nationwide acceptance of the insanity of
state-sanctioned murder. In Texas we have been making slow but definite
progress. A hearing was held on the abolition bill on March 12 and there
are now 5 sponsors of the abolition bill. That is a real accomplishment and
the folks tirelessly working in Austin deserve a big round of applause.

Speaking of which, *are you a member of TCADP*? Broadbased grassroots
support is so important to the success of our efforts and when donors think
about whether to provide the big bucks, the first question that they ask is
whether the organization has support from across the state. So if you're
not a member of TCADP, please consider going to http://tcadp.org and
clicking on the Contribute button to join forces with the organization that
is leading the way on our long journey to abolition in Texas.

See you at the vigils.

Rich
