Subject: [TCADP-BOARD01] Update on NCADP's new Legislative Action Center

Dear NCADP supporters:
I am writing to update you on NCADP's Legislative Action Center and
to urge you to use the Action Center in support of legislation in
your home state.
I hope that you will consider sharing this information with additional
listservs you may subscribe to, as well as members of local anti-death
penalty and other human rights groups.
In late January, the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty
launched the Legislative Action Center on our web site at
Let me share with you some exciting numbers.
In late January, immediately following its launch, just six people
the Action Center to notify their legislators. In February, that
grew to 67. In March, that number grew to 477. And on the very first
of April, 76 people used the Legislative Action Center to urge
for Scott Hain, the youthful offender scheduled for execution on
The purpose of the Action Center is to link local activists with their
state representatives, senators and governor so that activists can
with one click, send an email message in support of favorable death
By visiting the Action Center, you can find out what bills are pending
in your home state, and who to write to support these bills. You can
also ask that boards of pardons and paroles and governors grant
when an execution is pending.
An example: Nevada residents can currently lobby on behalf of a bill
that would ban the execution of youthful offenders simply by visiting
the Legislative Action Center, clicking on their state and sending an
already-drafted letter to their state senator. Other activists
who live in states where "hot" death penalty legislation is pending
can also visit the Action Center to see what legislation has been
Our goal is to have 10,000 people use the Legislative Action Center
by the time the 2003 legislation season wraps up. You can help us
achieve this goal by doing two things: First, visit the Legislative
Action Center at www.ncadp.org, click on your home state and lobby
your legislators on important bills that are pending. Second,
please forward this email message to friends, family, religious
organizations and to any other organizations with which you may
Together we can -- and will -- make a difference. It is not a question
of whether we will abolish the death penalty but when.
