7) Issue Area: Organizing and Social Justice
Deadline: September 15, 2003
Summary: The Unitarian Universalist Funding Program, Fund for a Just
Society makes grants to non-Unitarian Universalist groups in the
U.S. and Canada that: 1) Organize to bring about systemic change
leading to a more just society; 2) Work with those who have been
disenfranchised and excluded from resources, power and the right to
self determination; and 3) Inspire generosity among our members and
member congregations. Priority is given to groups of people
organizing to create change in the economic, social, and political
structures that affect their lives. They welcome projects that are
less likely to receive conventional funding because of the
innovative or challenging nature of the work or the economic and
social status of the constituency. The maximum grant is $10,000.
Most grants are between $5-7,000. Grants are given for one year.
Second-year funding is possible after submitting a final (or
interim) report and new proposal. Third year funding for the same
project is unusual.
