REMINDER:

Book discussion of __Nickel and Dimed: On (not)Getting by in America__

7:00 p.m.

Friends Congregational Church, 2200 Southwood in C.S.

THIS THURSDAY!!

Led by Jane Sell.

Even if you haven't read the book, feel free to come. We'll be discussing
the experiences of a journalist who worked as a waitress, a housecleaner and
a Walmart "associate" in three different cities, and discovered the
extraordinary effort (and courage) it takes to "get by".

This discussion is in preparation for the Just Peace Institute annual
Frederickson Lecture. Guest speaker is Richard Troxell, National Chair for
Universal Living Wage. It will be held on MARCH 23, 2003 at 3PM at FRIENDS
CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, 2200 Southwood Drive, College Station. Please mark
your calendars and plan to come.

This issue will become increasingly critical as state, TAMU, Blinn, and
public ISD budgets tighten. People in our community working at or near
minimum wage are the most vulnerable. We need to be aware and discover how
we can ACT! Legislation being hammered out now both in Austin and
Washington is having a DIRECT IMPACT on the lives of the working poor.

  Cecelia
