Friends:
I'm forwarding a message from Patrick Slattery through Linda Parrish. It's
for all TAMU faculty who might be interested in conducting one of the
teach-in sessions on March 5. Please read on below and contact Pat if
you're interested. Also, pass this message on to any TAMU faculty you know
who might like to hear about it.
Cecelia (message below)
Dear Colleagues,
Information about "TAMU Professors for Peace Teach-In on Wednesday, March 5"
Circulate this message to interested professors, instructors, and graduate
assistants at TAMU.
I was asked to remind folks that the reason March 5 was selected is because
it has been scheduled as a national (international?) day of protest,
networking, and education on all college campuses.
Read the statement below, and if you would like for your name added to the
signatures at the bottom, please send me a personal email. Also, in your
message, please tell me what time you plan to be present at the event and
what materials (if any) you plan to bring for discussion and/or
distribution). Write to me at pslattery at tamu.edu or patslat at aol.com
Also, please send a copy of this entire message to as many colleagues on
campus that you know. Any faculty/lecturer, grad assistant in any
department at TAMU is welcome to add their name to the list and attend any
or all of the event. PLEASE RECRUIT OTHERS TO JOIN US. In order to get
your name on this list, you must send Patrick Slattery (TLAC) an email
message by Wednesday, Feb. 26. Start circulating it across campus ASAP.
Finally, if you can help with the distribution of flyers on campus at the
end of next week, let me know.

Teach-In for Peace
On Wednesday, March 5, from 9:30am until 2pm many professors from across the
TAMU campus will gather in front of the academic building near the Sol Ross
statue for the purpose of conducting small group discussions about our
vision for world peace. We will be dressed in black to indicate our
concerns with current United States foreign policy, particularly the
threatened war in Iraq. We invite any interested students to stop by and
join in our discussion circles with us. We will explain our position and
invite your questions and comments. We believe that it is imperative that
we explore carefully the implications of American foreign policy in our
lives. We want to add our voices to the debate and provide an opportunity
for students to hear informed dissent from their professors. A few
musicians will be with us sharing their songs for peace. We hope to create
an environment that will advance discussion of non-violent peaceful
community on our planet in the dangerous days ahead.
Signed
Patrick Slattery, Professor, College of Education
etc.
etc.
