Dr. Robert Jensen (Associate Professor, Dept of Journalism, UT-Austin)
will be at the Texas A&M University campus on April 27 to speak on
"Affluence and Empire: Claiming our Humanity and Building Democratic
Communities". Using an approach that incorporates ethical, political,
intellectual, and market perspectives, Dr. Jensen examines the ways in
which democracy has been eroded in our civil society. He addresses the
implications of consumption and affluence for global justice and the
ecological future of communities and nations. Dr. Jensen's presentation
offers renewed hope for constructive engagement in the struggle to claim
our humanity and our democratic spaces.

The talk will be held from 5:00-6.30 pm at the J. Wayne Stark University
Center Galleries in the Texas A&M University Memorial Student Center (see
http://stark.tamu.edu/hours.html for location). Following this, Dr. Jensen
will be at the Revolution caf in Bryan from 7.30 to 9:00 pm to sign copies
of his new book "Citizens of the Empire: The Struggle to Claim Our
Humanity" (City Lights Books. 2004, Paperback, 160 pages, $11.95).
Revolution is located on 211 S. Main St., Bryan (adjacent to Los Nortenos;
parking/entrance around the back of the building).

Professor Jensen is the author of "Writing Dissent: Taking Radical Ideas
from the Margins to the Mainstreams" and co-author of "Pornography: The
Production and Consumption of Inequality". His analytic pieces on foreign
