JPI friends:

Some of you may not be on the Brazos Progressives listserv so I wanted to
pass this along to you about the plans for a peace march and vigil on
Saturday, May 1 at Veterans Park. E-mail Ray White for details.

>I'm really pumped about Saturday, May 1. Our friends in Austin are coming
>and bringing banners, flags, a wall with all Iraq coalition casualties,
>audio CD's, flag draped coffins, just lots and lots of stuff for both the
>march and the vigil. We are constructing a symbol to represent the
>thousands of Iraqi civilian casualties as well. Dick Underhill VFP Austin
>is coming in Friday morning to help us prepare. We could use some help!!!
>Who is available Friday...morning, afternoon, or evening or Saturday to
>help us put this thing together?
>
>Thursday the Eagle is running our press release PLUS an article about the
>vigil and VFP. We're actually getting some PSA's run on local radio and we
>may even get some TV coverage. Woody Powell, President of VFP national has
>pledged his support for our efforts here in the Brazos Valley. This is a
>real opportunity to build on all the hard work so many of you have done to
>raise awareness and promote peace in the past. Folks from Austin, Houston,
>and VFP National are doing their part. We need to become energized to
>educate or friends and neighbors, to promote thinking, and to bring the
>peace movement home in a big way.
>
>Let me know if you can help on Friday or Saturday. I'd also like to get an
>idea of how many of you are going to attend the march and/or the vigil. We
>have coffins and flags to carry so we need a lot of folks. Send me a
>return email if you will participate in one or both events.
>
>It may just be me but life just doesn't have the same flavor it did before
>the war. Everyday I think about the death and destruction going on in
>Afghanistan and Iraq. It is important for those of us who support peace to
>stand up and be counted. Especially here in one of the most
>conservative/apathetic places on earth. Please take a bit of time our of
>your life to make a statement by attending one of the events.
>...the citizen who thinks he sees that the commonwealth's political clothes
>are worn out, and yet holds his peace and does not agitate for a new suit,
>is disloyal; he is a traitor.
