[SCL] activities warm-up

Hi,

I have not received any messages on SCL (and have not posted
anything myself) for a while. Just worried whether everything is
OK with my emails or there has simply been a pause. IMHO
the initial discussion gave us a more or less common understanding
of the issues and the possible ways to tackle them, so that when
Pat gives a green light and a drafty schedule, we could perhaps
actually start writing the SCL draft specs.
