Pat,

Your points are well taken. My major excuse is that there was
"no action in the bullpen" so to speak, and Nancy and Harry
were getting ready to leave for Australia. So I put that
document together largely by cut-and-paste from other material
I had on hand.

In any case, we desperately need some material that is humnaly
readable, unlike Chris's SCL report, which sounds as if it was
written for the Journal of Symbolic Logic. I must confess that
I once subscribed to the JSL for a period of about 5 years,
but I got over it.

In any case, it's too late to do anything more for the ISO
meeting. I suggest that we wait until we hear what happened
in Melbourne and have a telecon, perhaps on Tues. Nov 4,
to discuss how to proceed.

Following are my suggestions:

  1. I will write a tutorial with my own byline containing
the material that I put into that report. I believe
material at that level is necessary for a rather wide
     audience.

  2. We should all make commitments with realistic deadlines
for producing a document, which can serve as a standard,
and which would be readable by people with a modest
     background in logic.

  3. We should consult with Nancy and Harry to find out what
the ISO gang wants and needs, what would be expected
     of us, and when.

And by the way, how did things go in Florida? What was
the response to the paper you and Chris presented?

John
