[SCL] RDF in an SCL world

Jim,
There's a lot more to say about all these things,
but I have to finish my slides and go off to ICCS.
I agree that there are a lot of very good people
devoting a lot of very hard work to a lot of
different subfields.
What bothers me is that they're all churning
out a proliferation of new notations for new
solutions that repeat a lot of the good work
done by other groups, but without integrating
any of the new stuff with any of the old stuff.
It looks very much like a repetition of what
was happening to AI in the '70s and '80s with
an incredible outburst of creative energy that
failed to support the mainstream programmers
of databases and programming systems.
The thing that bothers me most about the semantic
web is the term "web". The people who are actually
developing web servers are still using SQL, UML,
and conventional languages like Java, Perl, etc.
I'd much rather see an emphasis on a semantic
*system* instead of a separate *web*.
John
