The New York Consciousness Collective, a group of philosophers,
cognitive scientists, and musicians based in NY, hosts a monthly jam
session in the Lower East Side of Manhattan at a wonderful place
called the Parkside Lounge. Jam sessions have been on the last Monday
of the month from 9:00-12:30 p.m.. Anyone who wants to play is
welcome; I only ask that if you want to play please send me an email
at onemorebrown at gmail.com before hand. If you don't want to play but
would rather just listen that is fine too! If you or someone you know
is planning on being in the Tri-State area this summer feel free to
drop me a line or just show up at the Parkside.
The format is loose and friendly and we usually have many different
meriologies and styles (ranging from jazz/funk to reggae to rock and
everything in between) but I am happy to consider solo performance
requests (there is a piano but it is very Honky-Tonk) and even "guest
sets" by bands, duets, vocalists, or whatever, if any there be.
Basically the NYCC is a place for academic musicians to get together,
play, talk shop, and enjoy the amazing drink service that the back
room at the Parkside offers. We also often have "rehearsal" jams (at
my place or at Smash Studios) in between Parkside sessions and if
anyone is interested in coming to one just drop me a line.
Check out our Facebook page for updates, pictures, videos, and live
recordings from the Parkside:

What gets played depends on who shows up so if you don't like what you
hear then come on down and add something to it and if you do like it
then let us know (we're kinda needy!)
The summer sessions are scheduled for June 28th, July 26th, and
August 30th. Hope to see you there!
