TS Let's protest Richard Armitage

[The Touchstone]

      As many of you probably already know, Richard Armitage will be the 
Texas A&M commencement speaker for the Friday, August 13 2 PM 
ceremony.  Having this Bush administration neo-conservative war-monger on 
campus as a commencement speaker is quite a slap at our liberal/progressive 
community and, from my viewpoint, the very idea of a university 
itself.  I'm organizing a demonstration to protest him, his invitation, and 
the Bush Iraqi policies. What I'm currently thinking is that gather outside 
of Reed Arena (my understanding is that all of the university is now 
considered a "free speech" area) around 1 PM with signs and banners (please 
make your own).  I'm open to other ideas as well.  The sponsorship will 
nominally be The Touchstone -- but since it's by intention not a recognized 
university organization some university recognized group's sponsorship 
might be helpful.
      I'd like to get some sort of idea about interest in our community for 
this.  Please let me know if you and/or your groups are interested in 
joining this demonstration and if you are willing to help out with 
organization or sponsorship.  It would be great to have a large turnout to 
demonstrate local opposition to Armitage, his invitation, and this 
senseless, needless Iraq war.
      Also, since I've been away on sabbatical in Europe and India for a 
year two years ago and then after I got back here was involved with some 
time-consuming personal matters, I'm a bit out of touch with what needs to 
be done in organizing this.  Any help or advice is sincerely appreciated
